Looking for Summer Camp Instructors and Assistants

The Duluth Playhouse School of Performing Arts is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Lead Instructors, Music/Vocal Instructors, and Dance/Choreography Instructors for our 2025 Summer Programs!

We offer two exciting types of summer programs in 2025:

  1. Week-Long Summer Camps:
    Our camps run 2 to 6 hours per day, five days a week, and cater to students ranging from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Themes vary from acting-focused to musical theatre and may include topics such as acting, singing, dancing, writing, improv, scene study, audition techniques, and more!
  2. Mini-Intensives (New for 2025):
    These specialized programs include one-week drama/acting or two-week musical theatre performance programs. Students will develop a variety of performance skills and culminate their experience with a 20-30 minute performance for friends and family.

Reimbursement:

  • Lead Instructors: $185 - $2640 per session, depending on the program length and position.
  • Assistant Instructors: $135 - $1290 per session, depending on the program length.  (See below)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop age-appropriate curricula and lesson plans focused on theatre topics.
  • Implement lesson plans during in-person sessions.
  • Start and end classes on time.
  • Supervise students during lunch breaks to ensure safety.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information.
  • Monitor student behavior, ensuring a safe and cooperative environment.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed.
  • Ensure that spaces are clean and organized and reinforce respect for Duluth Playhouse property.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, setting clear expectations with assistants or co-instructors.
  • Follow Duluth Playhouse protocols for social media, harassment, and security.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in theatre and working with children is preferred.
  • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work effectively and problem-solve in a team setting.
  • Punctuality, flexibility, and dependability are essential.
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is required (training will be provided before the start of the program; exact date TBD).

Assistant Instructors Also Needed:

We are also seeking Assistant Instructors to assist with classroom management and support our lead instructors. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and have a genuine interest in working with children. Previous experience is preferred.
