What’s a Mousehole Cat?

Mousehole is a small fishing town off the coast of Cornwall, England, Great Britain.

We’re glad you asked!

The Mousehole Cat is a furry creation from Antonia Barber’s adaptation of a famous Cornish legend. This legend features Cornish fisherman Tom Bawcock and his cat, Mowzer. The two brave a stormy fishing expedition in order to save their small town from starvation. Antonia Barber adapted this story to reach many young minds in the form of a children’s book.

Cousin Jack’s Theatre Company in Cornwall, England took an interest in this story and based a puppet and live-action performance on Barber’s adaptation. Told from the perspective of the fisherman’s cat, Mowzer, Cousin Jack’s special live performance is full of music, imagination, and heartwarming storytelling. This brave and adorable cat is sure to charm kids and adults alike.

The Dream Team (now Cousin Jack’s) performs The Mousehole Cat at Minack Theatre in Cornwall, England in 2016.

If you’re itching to travel, Cousin Jack’s will perform their stage show in Cornwall, England this Christmas, just as they have for the past four years. These special performances are staged in Mousehole, Cornwall and happen amidst the infamous Cornwall Christmas Light Show.
